First Equine Veterinary Services Streamlines Equine Paperwork with GlobalVetLink

by Ali Oaks | May 27, 2026

First Equine Veterinary Services has spent the last 10 years caring for horses across Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. Based in Mobile, Alabama, the practice serves everyone from backyard horses to elite performance athletes — and completes nearly 2,000 Coggins tests each year.

With so many equine compliance documents to manage, the team needed a faster and more efficient way to handle paperwork in the field.

Moving from Paperwork to Digital Workflows

Before using GlobalVetLink, completing Coggins tests and health certificates required handwritten forms and hand-drawn horse markings, adding valuable time to every appointment.

“If you had a paint horse, you literally had to draw every marking on that horse,” said Patrick First, co-owner of First Equine Veterinary Services. “That could take an extra 10 or 15 minutes.”

Now, the First Equine team can complete Coggins tests, EECVIs, and CVIs digitally from the farm using photo-based horse identification and automated workflows. Previous horse information auto-populates for repeat patients, helping the practice save time and stay organized.

“Everything just happens so fast,” Patrick shared. “It frees us up to do less paperwork and more treating horses.”

GlobalVetLink also simplifies the submission process by automatically handling state and national reporting requirements, eliminating extra administrative steps for the clinic.

Better Access for Horse Owners

Digital document sharing has also made travel easier for clients. Owners can quickly access and share Coggins tests and health certificates directly from their phones through text or email — especially helpful for trainers, haulers, and competitors traveling frequently.

The team also highlighted the value of EECVIs, which allow eligible horses to travel across participating states for up to six months without needing a new certificate every 30 days.

More Time Focused on Horse Care

By reducing paperwork and streamlining compliance workflows, First Equine Veterinary Services has been able to spend less time on administrative tasks and more time focused on treating horses and serving clients.

The practice says GlobalVetLink has improved both efficiency and organization while creating a better experience for their team and clients alike.
