GVL Swine Industry Expert Chris Rademacher

The GVL® Expert Council was created to better understand our customers’ needs by providing industry knowledge and expertise for product development. We are featuring our Expert Council members on our blog so you can learn more about their fields of research and the experience they bring to GVL.

Dr. Chris Rademacher is a clinical professor and the ISU Swine Extension Veterinarian in the Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM) department at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Rademacher received his Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 1998. Following graduation, he joined New Fashion Pork as the staff veterinarian and service manager. He became the Director of Health Services and spent 10 years helping to grow the company from 1,000 sows to 60,000 sows.

In 2009 Dr. Rademacher joined Murphy-Brown Western Operations (Smithfield Foods) as the Director of Production Improvement. While there he provided technical and animal health research guidance to the 9 veterinarians and production managers who worked within the 330,000 sows in the Western Operations of Murphy-Brown.

In his role of Swine Extension Veterinarian at Iowa State University, Dr. Rademacher’s primary appointment includes extension (60%) and research (30%). He has led programming efforts in common swine industry foreign animal disease preparation, as well as VFD antibiotic regulations for the Iowa Pork Industry Center, as well as research on PEDV, PRRS, strategic antibiotic usage and Seneca Valley Virus.
